GN 3 Phase Decanter Centrifuge

A 3 phase decanter centrifuge is a type of solids control equipment that is used to separate two liquid phases from one solid phase. It works by using centrifugal force to separate the different densities of the liquids and solids. The solids are then discharged from the centrifuge, while the liquids are recycled back into the process.

3 phase decanters are commonly used in the oil and gas industry to separate oil from water and sand. They are also used in other industries, such as the mining and food processing industries.

The solids control system in a 3-phase decanter centrifuge is designed to operate in a continuous manner. The mixture of liquids and solids is fed into the centrifuge at a constant rate by a pump, and the solids are discharged at a constant rate. The control system ensures that the centrifuge operates at the correct speed and that the flow of liquids and solids is balanced.

The efficiency of a 3-phase decanter centrifuge is affected by a number of factors, including the density of the liquids, the size of the solids, and the speed of the centrifuge.

The speed of the centrifuge also affects the efficiency of the decanter. The faster the centrifuge rotates, the more centrifugal force is applied to the liquids and solids, and the more efficient the separation process is. However, if the centrifuge rotates too quickly, it can damage the screw propeller and the rotating bowl. In general, a high-speed centrifuge is designed with a speed of 3000-3500 RPM, which is effective to seperate fluid, oil and solids at the same time.

The discharged mud will be transferred by the auger, the oil will be collected and reused, and the fluid will flow back to the tank, which is mounted with agitators and mud guns Usually, A hopper is also connected to the tank, which is used for making new mud that flows back to the drilling bits and reusing.

GN shaker screens: A Standard for Safety and Efficiency

Shale shaker screens are an essential part of any drilling rig. They are used to remove solids from drilling mud, which helps to prevent formation damage and improve the efficiency of the drilling process.

In the past, there was no standard for shale shaker screens. This led to a variety of screen sizes and specifications, which made it challenging to ensure that the right screen was being used for the job. This could lead to problems such as clogged screens, lost production, and even safety hazards.

API 13C is a standard for shale shaker screens to address this issue. It specifies the physical properties of shale shaker screens, such as the cut point, conductance, and non-blanked area. This ensures that all API 13C-certified screens meet the same high standards, regardless of the manufacturer.

2

API 13C shale shaker screens offer a number of benefits, including:

Improved safety: API 13C certified screens are designed to prevent solids from clogging the screen, which can lead to a number of safety hazards, such as fires and explosions.

Increased efficiency: API 13C-certified screens are designed to allow drilling mud to flow freely, which helps to improve the efficiency of the drilling process.

Reduced costs: API 13C-certified screens are designed to last longer than non-compliant screens, which can help to reduce the overall cost of drilling operations.

When choosing an API 13C shale shaker screen, there are a few factors you need to consider:

The type of drilling mud you are using: Different types of drilling mud require different screen sizes. For example, water-based muds typically require a finer screen than oil-based muds.

The size of the solids you are trying to remove: The cut point of the screen determines the size of the solids that will be removed. For example, a screen with a cut point of 100 mesh will remove all solids larger than 100 mesh.

The flow rate of the drilling mud: The conductance of the screen determines how much drilling mud can flow through the screen per unit of time. For example, a screen with a conductance of 10 kD/mm will allow more drilling mud to flow through the screen than a screen with a conductance of 5 kD/mm.

What’s the Difference between a 2-phase and a 3-phase centrifuge?

At the CIPPE exhibition, GN had shown two centrifuges: A big bowl centrifuge and a 3 phase centrifuge. What’s the difference?

Centrifuges are machines that use centrifugal force to separate solids from liquids. The centrifugal force is created by spinning the centrifuge at high speed. The faster the centrifuge spins, the stronger the centrifugal force.

The solids in a slurry are denser than the liquids, so they are pulled to the outside of the centrifuge bowl by the centrifugal force. The liquids, on the other hand, are less dense than the solids, so they are pulled to the center of the centrifuge bowl.

The solids and liquids are then separated by a series of baffles in the centrifuge bowl. The solids are discharged from the centrifuge at the bottom of the bowl, and the liquids are discharged from the centrifuge at the top of the bowl.

The rotating speed of the centrifuge is a major factor in how effectively it can separate solids from liquids. The faster the centrifuge spins, the stronger the centrifugal force, and the more effective the centrifuge will be at separating solids from liquids.

However, it is important to note that rotating speed is not the only factor that affects the performance of a centrifuge. The density of the solids, the viscosity of the liquid, and the design of the centrifuge also play a role.

Centrifuges are essential tools for the mud system in solids control and waste management.

If you are looking for a way to remove solids from liquids, a centrifuge may be the right solution for you. For more details, please also contact me at samuel@gnsolidscontrol.co

GN Hex Shaker Screens

Recently, I received an email about hex shaker screens. I thought it would be helpful to share some information about these screens with you.

What is a hex shaker screen?

A hex shaker screen is a type of screen that is used in shale shakers. Shale shakers are pieces of equipment used in the oil and gas industry to remove solids from drilling fluid. The shaker consists of a series of screens that are vibrated to create a centrifugal force that throws the solids out of the fluid. Hex shaker screens are made of a hexagonal mesh that is designed to trap solids more effectively than traditional square mesh screens.

Why use hex shaker screens?

There are several benefits to using hex shaker screens in shale shakers. First, they are more effective at trapping solids than traditional square mesh screens. This is because the hexagonal shape of the mesh creates a larger surface area for the solids to adhere to. Second, hex shaker screens are less likely to clog than square mesh screens. This is because the hexagonal shape of the mesh allows the fluid to flow more freely through the screen. Third, hex shaker screens are more durable than square mesh screens. This is because the hexagonal shape of the mesh is less likely to tear or warp.

What are the advantages of GN hex screens?

  • Larger usable area: GN hex screens have a usable area that is 10-20% larger than the metal frames of OEM screens.
  • Rust-resistant: Compared with OEM screens, GN hex screens are made with composite frames that are resistant to rust, making them ideal for long-term storage.
  • High-quality fiberglass: The composite frames of GN hex screens are made with high-quality fiberglass, which improves the plastic quality and makes the screens resistant to temperatures up to 140°C.

What are the applications of hex shaker screens?

Hex shaker screens can be used in a variety of applications in the oil and gas industry. They are commonly used in shale shakers, but they can also be used in other types of equipment, such as mud cleaners and desanders/desilters. Hex shaker screens are also used in other industries, such as the mining and water treatment industries.

Agitators and Centrifugal Pumps: The Essential Components of a Mud Tank System

Mud Cleaning Systems are an essential part of any drilling operation. They are used to store and circulate drilling mud, which is a fluid that is used to lubricate and cool the drill bit, remove cuttings from the borehole, and prevent the borehole from collapsing.

Agitators and centrifugal pumps are two of the most important components of a mud tank system. Agitators are used to mix and circulate the drilling mud, while centrifugal pumps are used to move the mud from the tank to the drill bit.

Agitators

mud agitator2Agitators are typically powered by electric motors and have a rotating shaft with blades or paddles that are submerged in the mud. The agitator blades or paddles create turbulence in the mud, which helps to keep the solids suspended and prevents them from settling into the bottom of the tank.

There are two main types of agitators: vertical and horizontal. Vertical agitators are mounted on the side of the mud tank and have a shaft that

extends vertically into the mud. Horizontal agitators are mounted on the bottom of the mud tank and have a shaft that extends horizontally across the tank. GN agitators are Vertical agitators.

The type of agitator that is best for a particular mud tank system will depend on a number of factors, including the size of the tank, the type of drilling mud being used, and the desired level of mixing.

Centrifugal Pumps

gn centrifugal pump 5gn centrifugal pump 6Centrifugal pumps are used to circulate drilling mud from the mud tank to the drill bit. They are typically powered by electric motors and have a rotating impeller that is housed in a casing. The impeller spins at high speed, which creates a centrifugal force that forces the mud to flow through the casing and out of the pump.

Centrifugal pumps are available in a variety of sizes and flow rates. The size and flow rate of the pump that is best for a particular mud tank system will depend on the size of the tank, the type of drilling mud being used, and the desired flow rate.

Conclusion

Agitators and centrifugal pumps are essential components of any mud tank system. If you are interested, please send me an email to samuel@gnsolidscontrol.co,  you can help to ensure that your mud tank system operates properly and safely.

GN Vertical Cuttings Dryer: A Solids Control Solution for OBM and SBM Waste

The GN Vertical Cuttings Dryer (VCD) is a solids control equipment specially designed to treat OBM and SBM waste. It uses centrifugal force to dry drilled solids in oil or synthetic base fluids. The VCD can reduce the moisture content of cuttings to below 5%, which helps to reduce waste volume and meet environmental objectives.

The VCD is typically used in conjunction with a decanting centrifuge. The centrifuge further reduces the moisture content of the recovered mud, making it easier to transport and dispose of.

Most clients choose to mount the VCD and centrifuge on a telescopic skid. This allows the equipment to be easily moved and transported. The recovered solid mud from the centrifuge can drop into the tanks below, without requiring a transfer pump.

The VCD is fed with a 4kW screw pump. The centrifuge is fed with a 7.5kW screw pump. Both pumps are made by the German company NETZSCH. The major components of the pumps are made in Germany and assembled in China.

We can provide you with VCD and other equipment as options. If you have any questions and want to know more details please send me an email: samuel@gnsolidscontro.co
