GN Oil Sludge Treatment System was High-profile at CIPPE 2018

Yesterday, the CIPPE 2018 exhibition closed successfully. GN attracted lots of visitors coming to GN booth to learn GN’s new releases. Being a manufacturer with lasting creation capacity, GN solids control has been bring new products to the show for many years. Every year, the new products take new business for GN, which is the critical factor of GN’s continuously improvement.

This year, GN showed the new developed compact skid mounted oily sludge treatment system at the show. This skid system actually is a compact three phase separation system for oil, water and solids. The processing procedure of the system includes premixing, 2-phase separation and 3-phase separation.

In premixing procedure, the oily sludge coming from the sludge pit is poured into the premixing tank. At the same time, the chemical of demulsification is added into the tank. The chemical dosing system is also one of GN main products that mainly used in dewatering system. Electrical heating line that equipped on the tank can heat the tank up to 70 to 80 Degree Celsius for better demulsification performance.

In 2-phase separation procedure, there are 2 main equipment, shale shaker and decanter centrifuge. The sludge in premixing tank would be transferred by a pipeline pump to a shaker unit for coarse solids separation. And then the liquid with fine solids will be pumped to the decantercentrifuge for fine solids separation. Large content of fine solids can be removed in this process, the liquid mixture is consisting of water, oil and little amount of solids will be collected in a buffering tank waiting for final 3-phase separation.

A disc centrifuge is the key equipment in 3-phase separation procedure. In this procedure, the oil remaining in the slurry would be recovered. This economic benefit of this system is to recover as much oil as possible in the sludge, for final discharged environment friendly liquid and solids, further treatment would be needed. And this system is pilot unit to prove the oily sludge can be treated via this technology, once the testing result was satisfying, GN is able to provide the system with larger capacity.

This time, GN also issued the vacuum pump that is an ideal machine for transferring high solids content and high gravity sludge. Full air operation makes this unit could be safely applied in hazardous area.

ATEX Zone 1 Big Bowl Decanter Centrifuge for India Drilling Contractor

Decanter centrifuge is one of GN’s main products that widely used in all kinds of drilling mud recycling and waste management. This week, GN just finished the fabrication of the variable speed decanter centrifuge ordered by an India drilling contractor.
Almost all the drilling contractors request the equipment used on oilfield to be explosion proof certified for safety consideration. To meet the customers’ requirement on explosion proof standard, GN is now able to provide equipment with motors and control panel certified by China national explosion proof CNEX, IEC Ex and ATEX.

The ordered decanter centrifuge is GN’s model GNLW363C-VFD. The bowl diameter is 14 inch (360mm), bowl length and diameter ratio is around 3, which explains the model of the centrifuge. GN’s 14 inch decanter centrifuge can be used for various purposes due to the VFD design. The typical working speed of this model is 3200RPM, at this speed, the fine solids with size down to 2-5 microns could be separated out without adding additional chemicals. By reducing the speed to around 2000RPM, this unit can be used for barite recovery in solids control system.
The bowl material of this unit is duplex stainless steel 2304 which is much better than SS316L. The centrifugal casting technic makes the bow material has a better distribution feature for better balance.

This unit is equipped with temperature sensor at both bearing seats to inspect the temperature of the bearing. And a vibration sensor is installedon the base for abnormal vibration. All the sensors are used to collect information of centrifuge running and send signal to the VFD control panel. By uploading program into the VFD panel, the panel could monitor the centrifuge and trip off the unit for protection.

The VFD control panel matched to the centrifuge has 3 VFDs for main and back motors of the centrifuge and the feeding pump. Operators could set the running parameters on the HMI screen to adjusting the centrifuge running condition. GN’s VFD panel is positive pressurized explosion proof method, together with the air conditioner, the VFD panel could be used in hazardous are with very high ambient temperature.

GN Dewatering Centrifuge for Tunneling is Working Well in Singapore

GN engineer came back from customer’s site in Singapore and shared the photos showing GN’s dewatering centrifuge system was running there since the beginning of this year. Client is satisfied with the performance of the system.

GN’s dewatering centrifuge system can be used in separating the ultra-fine solids from drilling mud, waste water and so on. In tunneling project, the dewatering unit is used to remove the large content solids from drilling mud to make the water recyclable as always most of the tunneling site in city has limited area to put the waste mud collection container. A high efficiency dewatering system can greatly save the cost on water consumption and increase the boring speed.

GN’s dewatering centrifuge system is mainly consisting of the decanter centrifuge and chemical flocculation unit. To consider the operation safety and comfort, GN designed to put the decanter centrifuge and the flocculation system inside the container. The centrifuge is inside the upper container. The used mud will be transferred to it via a screw pump. In the meanwhile, the flocculation slurry will be added to the centrifuge as well. The fine solid particles in the mud will be gathered and removed. Clean water will be discharged out and flow into by gravity storage container waiting for reuse. The flocculation system installed in the downstairs container has automatic chemical mixing function which is convenient for operators on site.

Before feeding the mud into the centrifuge, normally a de-sanding unit will be needed to remove the coarse solids in the mud to protect the decanter centrifuge unit. This dewatering system running in Singapore has automatic lubrication function on the centrifuge unit which will protect the bearing of the centrifuge for longtime working and less shut down for maintenance. The screw conveyor installed in the container has slid runner. Thus the conveyor can slid out of the container for discharging the sludge and slid back into the container for transportation convenience.

GN Containerized Drilling Cuttings Treatment System and Shale Shakers for Russia

Yesterday GN shipped out some equipment for the order from Russia. All the equipment in this order are GN standard model and well accepted by clients’ operators. The order includes containerized drilling cuttings treatment system and other solids control equipment.

Cuttings treatment system is one of GN’s main systems used to treat the waste drilling cuttings discharged from primary solids control equipment. Cuttings dryer is the main equipment in the system. In GN’s design, the dryer unit is installed inside one container with feeding pump and screw conveyor for collecting the dried cuttings discharged from the dryer.

Effluence separated out of the cutting dryer will flow into the collecting tank that also installed inside the container. A mud agitator is installed on the tank for mixing the fluids to prevent the solids settlement. The container is also equipped with washing platform with clean water pipeline for operators’ convenience.

Decanter centrifuge unit would be connected with the cuttings treatment system via the hose system. The liquid in the collecting tank would be pumped to the decanter centrifuge for polishing, so that the drilling fluids could be recovered and reused. GNLW363CG could run at 3200RPM or variable speed for various applications. The 3200rpm unit is widely used for ultra fine solids separation. It is also used in dewatering unit system.

The client also ordered some shale shaker from GN. The model GNZS594E the first stage solids control equipment to remove the coarse drilling cuttings. The waste cuttings is discharged from the shale shaker, and then transferred to cuttings dryer for further treatment. GNZS594 shale shaker has 4 panels screen dimension 585x1165mm, vibration G force adjustable up to 7.5. By changing to 1.94kw vibrator, this model shale shaker could be used as high G force drying shaker for waste cutting management.

What GN will display at the show

1. Decanter Centrifuge GNLW363C – the best seller in GN’s production line. When design this model, GN choose to use the duplex stainless steel 2304 as the bowl material and centrifugal casting technology to make the bowl have a better dynamic balance. This 14 inch model is typically been used in solids control system, waste management system and dewatering system.
2. Shale Shaker GNZS594F – GN 4-panel-screen shale shaker is a widely accepted model with large screen and adjustable high G force. Patented sealing technology gives this model a better performance in preventing drilling fluids leak, which ensure the drying performance. Base on the shale shaker, the relative products mud cleaner and shaker screens will also be shown there. 
3. Sludge Pump GNSP-20A- this is a fully air driven pump that can be used in transferring high solids content and high gravity sludge. This pump is a safe pump that can be used in hazardous area. Without moving parts in the vacuum bag, the maintenance of the pump is also very convenient. GN will also show the widely used centrifugal pump at the show.

400 BBL Mud System for Australia Drilling Company

Last week, GN sent one set 400 BBL capacity mud tank system for an Australia client. GN’s rich experience in manufacturing as per Australia standards, like welding, cable colors and so on, ensures this order. Client also approved and accepted when visited GN on inspection before delivery.

This 400 BBL mud system is for a small rig. Client was worrying about the height of the mud tank will be higher than the drilling mud return pipe of the rig. Actually, GN’s design team has lot of experience in design the mud system, this problem will be considered as one the key factors when make the design. After confirming the height, the proposal provided by GN has a full consideration on let the used drilling mud flow to the tank and ever get into the shale shaker unit easily.

This 400 BBL mud tank system is consisting of 3 parts. Mud recycling tank, mud storage tank and a separate mud mixing unit skid. In consideration of the sufficient tank net volume and height limitation, GN designed the tank with large width which can only be shipped by bulk ship. A separatemixing hopper skid is also for the purpose of making the tank larger net volume capacity.

The equipment configuration of this 400 BBL mud system is simple but effective. 2 unit GNZS703 shale shaker installed on the first tank for coarse solids separation, the shakers occupied almost half area of the tank top, the other half is fixed with one unit mud agitator and also left space for mounting a degasser unit in future in case any request. The second tank is used for active mud storage and mud mixing, four units mud agitators work well to keep the solids in drilling fluids suspending. A separate mixing unit skid is able to be connected with mud tank freely as per site area.

Drilling Mud Recycling Unit ready for shipment to UAE

GN Solids Control has rich experience in making compact mud recycling system that used in no-dig drilling project. GN has standard model of compact mud system for option, for clients’ special requirements, GN is able to provide customized solution. This week, GN completed the fabrication of one set 350GPM mud recycling system for a UAE client.
The 350GPM mud recycling system in this order is GN standard self-contained unit with mud recycling, storage and mixing function. The equipment configuration is as below:

1. Shaker and mud cleaner composition unit- this unit is the main mud recycling equipment. The shaker equipped in this unit is a double deck model, the under layer is used as the first stage mud recycling equipment for coarse solids separation. GN composite frame shaker screen could effectively remove the solid particles; this process could reduce the load for the cyclone unit. The drilling mud passing through the under layer screen will immediately transferred by a centrifugal pump unit to the 4 inch cyclone for fine solids separation. The drilling mud after treated by the cyclone, solids with size larger than around 20 microns would be removed. Discharged slurry will be further dried by the upper layer screen for more fluids recovery.

2. A mud tank will be used as the mounting support of the shaker unit, the feeding pump of cyclone and the mixing pump would be mounted on the tank skid as well. On top of the tank, a mud hopper will be installed as the mud chemicals adding port. The mud tank is divided into two parts respectively for sand trap, storage and mixing.

This 350GPM mud recycling system could be packed in one 40 feed container for sea transportation. GN is full of experience in designing and manufacturing the compact mud recycling system. Poor Boy Degasser made for France Client

Couple months before, GN delivered 3 units of poor boy degasser to GNPC. Today GN finished another order of poor boy degasser from a France Client. GN’s poor boy degasser is manufactured as per API and ISO standard for underbalanced condition drilling to prevent dramatic pressure surges. For most of the deep drilling rig, a poor boy degasser is indispensable equipment for safety operation consideration. 
On oil drilling site, the poor boy degasser is always located beside the mud recycling system. In normal condition, the dirty mud back from well will go directly to the drilling mud shale shaker for solids separation. Under this condition, the poor boy degasser will not be applied. In case gas layer was intruded, a blowout might happen. This is the when the poor boy degasser will be used.

GN’s poor boy degasser is with simple structure for gas cut mud hitting on the baffle plates for dispersion, and then the gas separated The degasser unit could be designed to fix on a skid, thus the poor boy could be folded and easily moved on site. The chock manifold can also be installed on the skid. Before the drilling mud getting into the poor boy degasser, the chock manifold will reduce the pressure of the mud firstly.
Mostly, the poor boy degasser will be connected with an ignition device. The flammable and poisonous gas discharged from the poor boy degasser will be guided to the ignition device for burning out. Safety should be give the priority forever in any jobsite.

Drilling Waste Management Equipment for CNPC Project

The closed loop system for treating the drilling waste is now more and more popular and requested by almost all the drilling plant and oil products producers. This week, GN completed the delivery inspection for some drilling waste management equipment including 2 vertical cuttings dryers and 4 decanter centrifuges. These equipment would be used by CNPC for their drilling waste treatment. 
Vertical cuttings dryer and decanter centrifuge are 2 of the main equipment in drilling waste management system. In the same system, cuttings dryer and centrifuge are installed in the same line but one after another in working procedure.

Vertical cuttings dryer is always used to treat the drilling waste cuttings discharged from the primary shale shaker in the solids control system. Discharged cuttings still has large content of drilling fluids that can be recovered for reuse. Besides the drilling cutting, most of the oily sludge treatment also use the cuttings dryer unit for large size solids separation. GN’s cuttings dryer is fixed with screen of 3 sizes. The finest is 250 microns, which means the solids larger than this size would be removed out. Please be noted, the solids less than 250 microns would pass through the screen opening and flow to next procedure with the liquid. After treated by GN vertical cuttings dryer, the OOC will be less than 5%. The effluence coming from the dryer unit needs to be polished by the centrifuge for ultrafine solids separation.

GN big bowl decanter centrifuge could be used in normal solids control system, waste management and some other separation projects. The centrifuge ordered by CNPC is the GN 18 inch model with big capacity and cut point is down to 2-5 microns. The adoption of duplex stainless steel and centrifugal casting technology guarantee the machine stable performance and fewer breaking down for maintenance.

Vacuum Degasser and shale shaker for Uzbekistan Drilling Company

GN just finished the fabrication of one batch of solids control equipment for a drilling company from Uzbekistan. The ordered equipment mainly includes shale shaker and vacuum degasser. Some drilling companies give the mud recycling service to a third party. However, to reduce the drilling cost, some drilling company will do the mud cleaning by themselves.

Shale shakeris the first stage solids control equipment; the performance of the shale shaker will greatly affect the performance of the complete mud system. The more coarse solids removed at the shale shaker stage, the better the mud system will perform. GN shale shaker has following advantages that ensure the onsite stable performance.

Firstly, the adjustable G force is up to 7.5 with excellent drying performance that will recover more drilling fluids. 
Secondly, the rubber seal installed between the shaker screen and screen support frame is patented. It is easy for installation and replacing. The imbedded rubber strip has good elasticity and chemical resistance for long time application in treating drilling fluids. This type sealing technology effectively avoids the leakage. 
Thirdly, all GN shale shakers have been upgraded to use the composite frameshaker screen that can last for longer time. It reduces the frequency of replacing the screen so that greatly save the cost.

GN vacuum degasser is a type degasser with self-suction function which means no need an extra feeding pump. It is located after the shale shaker to remove the gas in the drilling fluids. It has a long suction pipe inserting into the drilling fluids inside the tank, thus GN vacuum degasser could also be used as a big power mud agitator.
