In GN assembling workshop, the solids transfer vacuum pumps ordered by a UAE client are ready for shipment. 2 months ago, the client saw GN vacuum pump by chance when surfing the internet. To learn more on this equipment, the client contacted with GN, after few days’ communication with GN sales team, client had a well understanding on the function and features of GN vacuum pump, and placed the order. 
‘I think this kind of the pump is what I am looking for since long time before, hope it can give me a help in transferring the sludge’ client told to GN sales representative. The vacuum pump is a kind of pump fully air driven. The most valuable feature of this pump is transferring high solids content sludge coming from the oilfield drilling cuttings, waste solids discharges and remains flushing slurry in oil vessel.

In some oilfield, the mud recycling system will discharge drilling cuttings to a large sludge pit first, and then excavated out for further treatment. The operators on field can use vacuum pump to do this job as the pump can suck 50 meters away and send to more than 500 meters far away. It also allows the large size solids up to 75 mm get through the pump. In drilling waste cuttings management system, this vacuum pump can transfer the cuttings to cuttings dryer or drying shaker with high efficiency.

GN has 3 models of the vacuum pump with capacity of 40m3/h, 20m3/h and 10m3/h, the latter 2 models are mobile design and small footprint so that the operator can push it easily to somewhere on site with limited area.

In the past CIPPE 2018 this March, GN solids control showed the 1 set skid mounted oil sludge treatment unit. This unit has all necessary functional device to recover oil from oily sludge; it can be used in small flow rate oil sludge treatment system or as a demo unit for user to verify if GN’s solution can solve the problem in disposing their oil sludge. Many visitors to GN booth showed their interest to try this unit. One of the visitors contacted with GN few days after the show and placed the order for this system.

This oil sludge treatment unit is consisting of premixing procedure, 2-phase separation procedure and 3-phase separation procedure. The main technologies used are flush washing for oil demulsification and separation for different phases like oil, water and solids. The purpose is to recover as much oil as possible and achieve as less waste discharge as possible.

Feedback from customer is saying that GN skid mounted oil sludge treatment provides an effective solution for them to treat the waste oil sludge in the pit on their rig site. They are considering starting up the further cooperation with GN by placing order on GN module type oil sludge treatment system with large treating capacity.

The premixing procedure applies premixing tank with thermal system as well as the chemical dosing system. Oil sludge need to be with certain liquidity for easy transportation and mixing with chemicals.
GN Mini Shale shaker GNZS752 and 9 inch decanter centrifuge GNLW224 are the main equipment used in 2-phase separation procedure, these are GN main product that have been approved with good performance and quality, 2-phase separation is to remove as much solids as possible from the demulsified oil sludge.

Pictures here show the oil, water and solids discharged from the 3-phase separation process. A disc centrifuge is used in this step to receive the liquid discharged from decanter centrifuge. By running at a high speed, the disc centrifuge can effectively recover the oil from the slurry.

1. GN Vacuum Sludge Pump
Vacuum pumpis one of the new releases GN brought to the show. This pump is an ideal solution for transferring the high solids content and high gravity sludge. The drilling waste cuttings treatment equipment is the key equipment in the closed loop mud recycling system. By applying the cuttings treatment equipment, more drilling fluids would be recovered to save the drilling cost on water or base oil consumption; and less drilling waste would be discharged for environment protection. 
This week, GN finished the fabrication of a batch decanter centrifuges and vertical cuttings dryers that would be shipped to Africa client who has ordered many unit centrifuges and cutting dryers from GN. During many years developing, GN’s equipment is well approved and accepted by more and more international high-end users.

In this order, all the decanter centrifuges and cuttings dryers are mounted on the telescopic skid, which will enable the going up and down of the equipment position per working conditions on site. With a high position, the treated cuttings and effluence liquid will be discharged out and flow to storage container easily. 
The performance of GN’s vertical cuttings dryer has been approved that the OOC of the discharged solids will be less than 5%. The screen inside the dryer unit has excellent features for blocking the solids cutting particles and releasing the liquid. It will bring high separation efficiency for cuttings and the OBM. The cuttings dryer unit is used to treat the cuttings discharged from the primary solids control equipment, all the cuttings would be collected and transferred to cuttings dryer. Currently, GN has developed an ideal vacuum pump that can transfer the sludge with solid content up to 80%. The pump is just the right device to transfer the drilling cuttings.

In the technical diagram, decanter centrifuge in located after the cuttings dryer unit to polish the liquid discharged from the dryer. The fine solids in the drilling fluids would be removed out by the decanter centrifuge, thus more drilling fluids would be recovered for reusing. GN has upgraded the centrifuge bowl material to SS2304 for batter material distribution and dynamic balance. The ordered centrifuges include both fixed speed model and VFD model for client’s different purpose.
The VFD control panel is equipped with AC device for high ambient temperature application. This ensures the continuously running without shut off caused by electric components temperature rising.

GN’s 2-phase decanter centrifuge is a kind of equipment used to separate the fine solid particles from liquid to clean the liquid. Before, GN’s decanter centrifuge is applied for removing the drilling cuttings from drilling fluids, thus to make the drilling fluids reusable. Due to same working principle, the decanter centrifuge is able to be used in waste water treatment project to separate the coarse solids in the waste water at early stage of the waste water treatment system. Sometimes, the flocculation agent would be added into the waste water to gather the ultrafine solids, and then feed to the decanter centrifuge for separation.

GN’s vacuum pump is used to a fully air operated pump that can transfer high solid content and high gravity sludge. In environmental protection, the pump can be used to transfer the sludge in waste pit to the treatment plant. It has high efficiency for suck from 50 meters far away and discharge to 500 to 1000 meters. The vacuum pump can even suck the sludge with solids content up to 80 percent or full dry material like sand, soil.

Main Application of Vacuum Pump
Waste drilling cutting transferring is one of main application of the vacuum pump. The drilling cutting discharged from primary shale shaker, cyclone unit and decanter centrifuge is with high solids content, which makes the cuttings difficult to be transferred to the cuttings dryer unit for further treatment. The vacuum pump can transfer the material with solids content larger than 80 percent. The high transferring efficiency prevents to collect the waste cutting firstly into a mud pit, which make the closed loop mud system a reality.
The oily sludge coming from refinery waste, crude oil tank bottom residual and barge vessel cleaning is still with large quantity oil remaining in it. To recover the oil in the sludge, firstly the operators need to transfer the sludge to the oil slurry treatment system. Air operation can firstly produce vacuum inside the pump to suck the sludge from 50 meters out there and the discharge under positive pressure to far away 500-1000 meters.
Besides, the vacuum pump can also be used in waste pit cleaning, frac tank and animal waste transferring. It is worthy to mention that the pump is fully air operation for hazardous area application. Due to none any rotating parts inside the cavity, the wearing is less for long working time.

GN’s mobile vacuum pump is installed on a wheel skid that makes the unit could be moved easily onsite. The handle is foldable for moving and operation convenience. GN has models with capacity of 10 cubic meters per hour and 20 cubic meters is on the wheel skid, the operation is automatically. For larger capacity, customer could choose the model of 40 cubic meters per hour for both automatically and manually operation available.
