GN Mud Cleaning Equipment in The States for Construction Mud Treatment

These days, one of GN’s engineers is busy on commissioning of the mud cleaning equipment sent to the site where a client from The States want to use these equipment to clean the waste mud produced in construction project. So far, all the equipment have been well connected, next, GN’s engineer will help to test running of the equipment and train client’s operator how to use GN machine. This client totally order 2 set mud cleaning system from GN, GN hopes the performance of the machine would satisfy client and brought profit for client as soon as possible. The ordered mud cleaning system is consist of several separation modules and related auxiliary equipment, below is a brief introduction on the system.

  1. Trash collecting hopper – construction waste is delivered to site and then firstly mixed by water to make the waste flowable. At the bottom of the hopper, there are valves for discharge the waste onto a coarse screen for large size particles. This hopper is installed underground for easy waste discharge from the truck.  2. Coarse screen — the coarse Screen under the hopper would remove the trash like debris, cans, metals etc. The collecting tank under the coarse screen is used for temporally storing the liquid that would be treated further by the fine screen.  3.High G drying shaker — On one mud tank, GN’s high G force drying shaker is fixed on the first compartment of the tank. The liquid pumped from the tank beneath the coarse screen will be separated again by the drying shaker for fine particles removing and water recovering. For better performance, GN’s shaker is fixed with composite frame screen panel and oil resistance rubber seal strip. This extends the continuous working period and reduces the maintenance frequency
  2. De-silter unit — The de-silter is assembled equipment by cyclone frame and under drying shaker. The cyclone unit could reduce the cut point down to about 20 microns for much finer solids separation. The under drying shaker is same model with the high G force shaker for maintenance convenience.  5. Big bowldecanter centrifuge — the decanter centrifuge is provided with telescopic skid. The slurry treated by the cyclone unit would be fed to the centrifuge for polishing. The ultrafine solids cannot be removed even by high speed decanter centrifuge. Thus, GN equipped dosing system that is used for mixing the flocculation agent. By adding the flocculation agent, the ultrafine solid particles would be gathered and separated by the centrifuge unit

GN Decanter Centrifuge Working in Canada for Oil Sludge Treatment

Couple months ago, one client ordered decanter centrifuge and centrifugal pumps from GN solids on their jobsite in Canada for oil sludge treatment. Oil sludge would come from the drilling site oily waste cuttings, oil storage tank bottom sedimentation flushing slurry and refinery plant oily waste.
GN has decanter centrifuge designed especially for the oil industry. After few years’ development, the centrifuge unit was approved qualified in solids control fine solids separation, drilling fluids recycling and oil recovery from waste oily sludge.

Before the decanter centrifuge, the client already had the shaker unit for coarse solids separation. This thick oily sludge would be mixed with chemicals firstly in a steel tank for demulsification and viscosity reducing. But only using the shaker unit cannot remove the fine solids in the slurry. After sufficient communication and factory visiting, the client fully know the capability about GN’s decanter centrifuge, finally they order two units from GN.
One of the two centrifuges is 14 inch with max speed up to 3900RPM. This is GN’s most popular model for oil industry. With a high speed, this unit can remove the ultrafine solids from the slurry if adding flocculation agent. The other unit ordered is GN’s big bowl centrifuge with 22 inch diameter rotation bowl; this unit is used to remove the large content solids as its high flow capacity.

Shortly before, GN upgraded the centrifuge bowl material by using stainless steel of 2304 with much better features on corrosion resistance. Centrifugal casting technology makes the bowl body with better balance performance. Both of the units are equipped with VFD control panel for various working condition and client’s multiple purpose. GN is also able to provide the skid for centrifuge to put on for a convenient performance.

Second batch Solids Control Equipment for the Ukrain 16 Drilling Rig Project

After few months’ documentation preparation and request following up, GN finally was awarded the tender of solids control equipment for 16 drilling rigs in Ukraine. Client is planning to upgrade the existing mud recycling system by replacing the old equipment. This tender includes over 30 units decanter centrifuges, over 30 units shale shaker and mud cleaners, as well as 6 units vacuum degassers.

Shale shakerand mud cleaner are the equipment use to remove the large size drilling cuttings in the drilling fluids. GN’s shale shakers model of GNZS594E-HB which is especially designed for the oil and gas drilling with weir feeder to buffer the high pressure impact for protecting the shaker screen. The screen deck of the shaker is adjustable from -1°to +5°,operator could even adjust the shaker deck during running of the shaker. With the G force up to 7.5, the shaker could greatly dry the solids for drilling fluids recovering. The cyclone manifold is bolted fixing on the shaker unit and could be removed for easy transportation and installation.

Vacuum degasserunit is installed after the shale shaker and before the mud cleaner. It is used to remove the gas in the gas cut in drilling fluids. By removing the gas, the vacuum degasser could ensure the drilling fluids with a proper gravity. And the centrifugal pump could transfer the drilling fluids to the cyclone unit with sufficient pressure.

Decanter centrifugeis used to remove the fine solid particles in drilling fluids. The client equipped 2 unit centrifuges for each of the drilling rig. When drilling, the decanter centrifuge with low speed could be used for barite recovery, and the other centrifuge with high speed would be used for ultra-fine solids separation.

Mud gas separator should be manufactured according to the API and ISO standard, usually used for drilling in underbalanced conditions where dramatic pressure surges normally. GN’s mud gas separator is with simple design structure of several baffle plates welded in the inner wall of the vessel for gas cut mud hitting on the baffle plates for dispersion good, make the gas separated. Normally, the separated gas will be guided to an open area for burning by an ignition device to keep safe work .

In this time, waste collection containers are used to collecting the drilling waste cutting or other waste stuffs on drilling site or oilfield. GN’s engineers had sufficient communication with client on the specifications requested of the container before manufacturing.

The main features of the waste collection containers:
1. Have excellent interface sealing – Can prevent the leaking of the liquid from the container, the sealing uses anti-corrosion silicone rubber.
2. On-line monitoring system – Leaking monitoring device installed at the discharge port
3. Loading warning system – The containers are equipped with gravity sensor module to avoid over loading as per relative environment protection regulation.
4. Internal coated with corrosion resistance for acid and alkali corrosion.
5. Electrical automatic sliding cover performs well on sealing for leakage when closed.
6. All cables are laid inside the square steel tubes; no any cables are outside, which is good for long lifetime and working safety.

Centrifuge Feeding Pumps for Solids Control and Waste Management

Centrifuges are greatly used in solids
control and drilling waste management systems in oil and
gas drilling industry, because it could separate out directly or together with
chemicals the fine and extra fine solid particles from the liquid at a high
rotating speed of the bowl. In a solids control system, it is always used after
the desilter and in waste management systems for drilling cuttings, it is used
after the high G dryer shaker or vertical cuttings dryer. When using together
with chemicals like dewatering, it is used after the dewatering unit.

Normally, what equipment is used to feed
the decanter
centrifuges
? Although in theory, the centrifugal pump could be used to feed
the decanter centrifuges just as the centrifugal pumps are served for the desander and desilter,
the centrifugal pump is not an ideal solution. Mostly practical options are submersible
slurry pump and screw pump.

1. submersible slurry pump: just as its
name, the submersible slurry pump has some part of the body underneath the
liquid, and it is vertically installed on the tank for feeding the decanter
centrifuge. In most cases, it is used for fixed speed decanter centrifuge. comparing
with a screw pump, it occupies less space for install and the price of
submersible slurry pump is lower than a screw pump, because the material and
producing technology is less complicated than screw pumps.

2. screw pump, also called mono pump in
practical uses, the most important parts of the screw pump are stator and
rotator, by rotating of the rotator, the transported media is conveyed evenly
and at a stable speed to the decanter centrifuge. Frankly speaking, this is
more suitable as the feeding pump of decanter centrifuges. GN always match its
decanter centrifuge with Netsch pump, which is a German brand, and the liquid
touching parts are all made of SS316L.

How Solids Control Works in Dredging Project

The company who provides environmental
protection service may have the business for dredging in rivers or lakes. Many
years’ soil sedimentation down to the water bottom, leaves falling into the
water and then rot, and the trash threw into the water will make the river bed
higher and higher which leading the pollution of the water and even the cutoff
of the river flow. Therefore, we need find a solution to take out the sand,
silt and trash at the bottom of water to make the water clean.

To take the solid stuff out from the water,
we need a solid and liquid separation system to do this job. As a leading
manufacturer of solids control equipment, GN solids control luckily
jointed a project to make the lake water clean inside a residence district.
There is a dredging boat that can take the solid mixed with water from bottom
of the lake, the dirty slurry was sucked out and delivered on to the land with
smelly smell.

The slurry is fed via a steel wire box
where large size solid stuff will be blocked and collected. Then the liquid
will be pumped to GN’s solids control system. In this system, GN designed 3
stages for solids control including shale shaker,
de-sander and de-silter. Both the de-sander and
de-silter are equipped with underflow shaker that could make the discharges
from cyclone much dryer. After treated by the de-silter cyclones, the solid
stuff with size larger than 15-20 microns will be removed. And the rest solid
in the slurry is difficult to remove by using mechanical machinery.

Flocculation is a good method to gather the
ultra fine solids in the slurry. Add the flocculation agent into the slurry as
per certain ratio and then fully mix with mud agitators. The
flocculated slurry will need several times for sedimentation and then will be
pumped to belt filter press for final dewatering process. The solids will be
discharged with a thin cake shape, and the water could be discharged directly
back to later or river.  

The advantage of the filter press is to
make the solids much dryer, and disadvantage is high cost and small treating
capacity. Some other contractor will use decanter centrifuge to do the final
dewatering job on consideration of its larger treating capacity.

Environmental Waste Management System

We are negotiating our first AD grit removal contract (potential 3000 ton). We will use the unit that is on the way for this.
We are putting a package together for sewage sludge, consisting mainly of rags and grit separation. First process will be the removal of the rags and for this we will have to make adjustment to a single deck shaker by adding spray bars underneath the shaker deck to be able to clean the mesh if it gets blocked. We can do this as a retrofit here but would prefer if it can be designed and constructed in your factory. We will need a buffer tank with pump to feed the spay bars incorporated in the unit ( fresh water fed). Video attached. We are looking at shaker:

After removal of the rags we have to deal with the grit and believe this should be done with a standard desander unit. GNZJ703E-D1S8N/ GNZJ703E-2S12N
We might want to add on to this a desilter unit or small centrifuge. The water for the spray bars can come from fresh water supply and does not have to be recycled as disposal of water is not a problem at sewage treatment plants.
All to be mounted on a tank with appropriate compartments.
